Here in Cedar Knolls, NJ, and throughout beautiful Morris county, there is no shortage of outdoor activities to enjoy. Whether you are looking to hike, camp, or visit a historical farm, there’s something for everyone. Nestled within the Township of Hanover, Cedar Knolls and the surrounding area is rich in natural beauty and steeped in history. We’ve compiled a list for you of some of our favorite ways to enjoy the great outdoors, and you won’t even have to travel far to do it.

1. FISHING AND SWIMMING IN BEE MEADOW PARK/BRICKYARD FIELD

Bee Meadow Park may is a great place to take the kids fishing. It features three ponds, a playground, an athletic field, and a members-only swimming pool. Membership for the pool is available to both residents and non-residents of Hanover Township. Still, whether you join the pool or not, the park is open for everyone to enjoy. All three ponds are stocked for fishing, and the park also holds free outdoor concerts during the summer months.

2. TAKE A HIKE ALONG THE PATRIOT’S PATH

Hanover Township hosts the eastern section of the Patriot’s Path Trail and Greenway System. It features five different blazed hiking trails that you can choose from. Some trail areas are only open to foot traffic, but others are open to bicycles and horses as well. The trails pass through historical sites dating back to the Revolutionary War, watershed areas, and several county, state, and municipal parks in the area.

3. ENJOY EVERYTHING THE GREAT OUTDOORS HAVE TO OFFER AT LEWIS MORRIS COUNTY PARK

Lewis Morris County Park stands on 2,196 acres and is the second-largest county park in Morris county. You can bike, hike, swim, fish, have a picnic, or get a group together and go camping for the weekend here. There is also a dog park so your four-legged family members can enjoy the park too. The fun continues when the weather gets cold with activities like cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding for the kids.

4. TAKE A GROUNDS TOUR OF CRAFTSMAN FARMS

Explore the grounds of an early 20th Century farm once owned by the renowned furniture maker Gustav Stickley. Several of the original buildings are still standing. Unfortunately, they are not currently open due to Covid restrictions and damage caused by last year’s Tropical Storm Isaias. However, you can book a Grounds Tour where you can enjoy the breathtaking landscapes and views of the property’s historic buildings as well as learn about the farm’s rich history.

There are plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors here in Cedar Knolls. However, after a day or a weekend of basking in nature’s glory, you are probably going to be ready for a hot shower and a soft bed.
